How to add or subtract:

Use the number line if your child finds the math sums below difficult. The number line up to 10 is shown below, before and after each task, or you can create a number line up to 20 yourself and encourage your child to count on and back using a jumping method from number to number.

Example on how to add numbers: for "1+3...":

How to Use the Number Line to Add Numbers

Put a finger or pencil on number 1 and jump 3 times, it will land on number 4, so 4 is the correct answer.

An example on how to subtract numbers: Use the same method for subtraction, for "6-1..."

How to Use the Number Line to Subtract Numbers

Start from 6 and jump to the left 1 number landing on 5, the right answer is 5!
