Free Interactive Preschool Math Subtraction Practice Sheets for Children Ages 3-5
Your child is now ready to practice subtraction with these math subtraction worksheets for kindergarten. They are a summary of math sums that your child has learnt so far.
Your child will revise how to subtract objects on a printable subtraction worksheet. The objects will be replaced by numbers and then your child can practice subtracting numbers interactively. Provide your child with small objects to can help them count, items such as buttons, marbles etc. which will help them to go through this task.
Use the number line from 0 to 10 to help your child to count backwards and refresh their memory what the numbers look like. The example below will remind you how to use a hopping motion on the number line for subtractions:
For example, for "5 take away 4 makes..." ask your child to place a finger or pencil on the number 5 and make 4 jumps to the left landing at 4, 3, 2, and then at 1, so the right answer is 1!
Print out the worksheet on the left and color the objects using colored pencils or felt-tip pens. This will help to improve their concentration, pencil control and eye and hand coordination. The page consists of 6 tasks and every task is divided into 3 similar questions. Your child need to cross out 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 objects, count the remaining objects and write the answer in the box on the right. |
Use the number line to help your child with the calculations. Eventually your child should be able to try the sums without it.
Some answers might be 0 (nothing or 0). It is easy to introduce the concept of 0 to your child by playing a game: "We have 2 sweets and you eat 2. How many are left?"
